Seasonal Garden Projects
Fall
As the weather starts to cool off, give shrubs their final feeding.

A natural plant food won’t push new growth that could be easily damaged by early frost. Gather and discard diseased leaves. Don’t let problems over winter in your Garden. Replace dying summer flowers in deck containers with bright fall flowers for an even longer display.

Compost leaves and garden debris when you can.  But put persistent weeds in the trash can, not the compost pile.  Fall lawn food will help northern lawns gear up for winter and help southern lawns recover from summer heat.  Plant spring bulbs-daffodils, tulips, freesia, hyacinths.  Extend the vegetable season-broccoli, carrots, lettuce, spinach and other greens

Winter
In colder areas, protect shrubs with deep mulches, straw or evergreen branches.  In milder areas, continue to plant spring bulbs.  Mulches protect soil from winter rains and erosion.

Compost mulch will break sown over the winter to supply organic matter and nutrients to the soil.  Plant shade or fruit trees while they are dormant.

Spring
Start an early container with those cooler season flowers, pansies or primroses, and give your patio or front steps a colorful lift.

Prune winter damage from shrubs and trees before they begin to leaf out. Add organic matter whenever you can.  Mix in soil amendments as you plant vegetables or annual flowers.  As spring warms the soil, the lawn wakes up, too.  Now’s the time to start your natural lawn food program.  Feed trees and shrubs to help them put out strong, new growth. Plant summer flowering bulbs, gladiolas, calla lilies, dahlias, cannas and more

Summer
All the vibrant colors of summer flowers are now available.  Hanging baskets, window boxes, and patio pots will be enjoyed well into fall.

Herbs are great plants for containers, too.  Terrific textures, soft colors, and wonderful scents.

Plant tomatoes, peppers and corn just as it really starts to warm up, for a bumper crop of vegetables.

Fertilize shrubs, lawns, flowers and vegetables for continued strong growth, beautiful colors, and luscious produce.

Mulch helps retain soil moisture and keeps plants roots cool in dry summer weather.  Bark mulches are great for shrub beds, but compost is better for flower and vegetable gardens.
